Hey everyone! SO when the Baekyeon dating news first came
out in June. I was debating whether or not to write my two cents on it. I
decided not to because I didn’t think it was THAT big of a deal. I wrote about
Khunfany because it was more surprising to me… but Baekyeon not so much.

For those of you who don’t know Taeyeon, the leader of SNSD, and Baekhyun, a main vocal of EXO (Exo-K), have been confirmed to have been
dating way back in June, apparently beginning their relationship as early as
the start of the year. BaekYeon = baek(hyun) + (tae)yeon.
But the fact that it has been more than half a year later,
and people are STILL upset and going crazy over it, I feel like I might as well
share those two cents now.
First off, I’m still super confused as to why the couple is
getting so much hate. If anything, I thought they would get the most support
out of all the soshi members in relationships right now because SO many people
shipped them beforehand.
Since they are both my ultimate biases from both groups my
fangirl heart was more than content my OTP came true :3 It appears as though
many people on the internet agreed because Baekhyun made it known that he
liked/admired Taeyeon. So whenever there were interviews where they sat next to
eachother or concerts where they walked side by side. All the comments were
like “BAEKYEON” and “Baekhyun must be so happy right now…” etc… etc…
Imagine my surprise when the internet flipped out to the
extreme when they were confirmed to be in a relationship. My understanding is a
lot of people shipped them.
Guess not.
I think part of the discontent is the fact that Taeyeon is
older. But really. Since when was an older girl and younger guy relationship a
bad thing. It’s not like it is an eight year difference, to my understanding
it’s more like two, but people are still calling Taeyeon a cougar and cradle
robber and whatnot. Lol, seriously?... In addition Baekhyun claimed he wouldn’t
be in a relationship for a while so the fans felt like he lied. But really who
can promise they WONT end up falling for or dating someone… Let’s not forget
the Exo fans are a bit on the extreme side in terms of love and possession of
the members so the amount of love they receive is proportionate the amount of
discontent and betrayal their fans feel.
Taeyeon’s merch sales and fan base remained pretty solid; she
wasn’t affected that much in the sense that most sones were more understanding.
Baekhyun’s merch sales however plummeted and his fans were so discontent that
he stopped using his instagram account even until TODAY. He still hasn’t posted
a thing since the news breakout -.- Taeyeon also stopped for a while but she eventually
restarted and everything is back to normal for her.
Apparently she cried at an airport a while back apologizing
to the fans; Baekhyun also apologized as well. To which all I can say is, Korea
is the one of the only places where dating is such a huge deal. In America and
other places, though celebrities have just as many fans, they don’t get nearly
as possessive as k-fans due when their celebs are dating or even getting
married.
Again because this IS an Exo member it might be more extreme
than say if it was a B2ST or Big Bang member because the fan bases are
different. For example another popular ship is Chandara Chan(yeol)+(San)dara of
Exo and 2NE1 respectively. However, I bet you if their dating news came out
tomorrow, fans would react the exact same way as they are to Baekyeon…
Another reason why people were discontent was because
apparently the two shared secret messages to one another on social media. If it
is true, which we can’t confirm but only speculate, I think it is pretty cute -
but everyone else seems so betrayed. They are twisting it to seem like Baekhyun
and Taeyeon are flashing it in our faces when in reality they are just doing
little things for each other.
Like their phone cases that apparently match or couple accessories. They didn’t go around posting blatant pics of it. It’s the hawk-eyed
fans that are spotting it out and then having the nerve to get mad and say “how
dare they do that when they know their fans are still sensitive about the news”
-.- Why’d you spend so much time and energy to find that out then?
Everyone comments on Yoona and Seung Gi, Tiffany and
Nickhun, and any other couple but as for Baekhyun and Tayeon, they are pretending they don’t exist
because the backlash is so bad -.-
Even today there was a news article reportedly about them
going on a date and people are still freaking out. It’s been more than half a
year people. Let them be. Why should they sacrifice their happiness for yours
when you know the chances of you being with either of them is so small XD
seriously. Just enjoy their music and work because that is what they are paid
to do. Stop prying into their lives please.
That is my rant/take on the matter, and I hope the day where
they can talk about each other in peace will come true. Baekyeon fighting!
